The People's Princess and Today's World - By
Imran Khan Lady Diana was one of the most well known people in the world; she was a figure that was attracted not only to people but also to the governments. Besides her beautiful and lovely personality, she had a heart of gold, she was very sensitive and she felt the grievances of the people and was ready to help needy persons all around the globe. She traveled everywhere in the world to help people. She provided help in any kind of problems from cancer, leprosy, homelessness, AIDS, war effects and more. At early ages, it was thought that AIDS can be spread by casual contact and the unfortunate patients of AIDS were completely cut down from society, but she denied that by meeting and shaking hands with them telling the world that these people also require respect and love. The pictures were spread all over and she did significant work to let the world know about the disease. All the people loved her, as they believed that she worked for their betterment and tries to make them happy again. Even after 1996 when she was not a member of Royal Family, still every one was calling her Princess Diana, as she was the Queen of Hearts, People’s Princess. In 1997 she drove the attention of the world to a very big problem of land mines when she visited the war torn Angola and Bosnia Herzegovina; everyone knows how emotional those tours were; tears were in her eyes to see the devastation of war. Landmines were killing the innocent people, including children, but she was in middle of them to give them support, love, and assurance that they are not alone. Her heart was clean and her tours brought momentous attention to the misery of the people there. She was busy giving speeches and made many appeals to governments for bans on landmines. Unfortunately she died in a horrific accident on August 31st, 1997. Our princess is not amongst us anymore, but the work she started was not over even after her death. Princess Diana’s goal became reality, when 122 governments signed the Mine Ban Treaty in Canada. There is also a Memorial Fund in her name, which is continuing the work she did before her tragic death. But what we have now - more wars, more devastation than ever before. If she was living now, I am sure she would have gotten more and more tears. Even after many years of invasion on Iraq, there is no peace, innocent people are dieing every day and no one can stop it, there is no rule of USA on Iraq, there is no rule of Iraqis in Iraq; only death rules Iraq. Its not only Iraq but there are more and more problems; do we have any personality in this world now to go there and shed tears with people, give them love, give them attention and make them visible to everyone in the globe so that all of us could feel their sorrows and pain. Is there anyone to compel governments to join together to end these miseries? Do we have any one? Do we have any person to let the world to do that? I think not. With how poor we are now, can anyone take her place and start doing what she was doing for humanity? As it is said that the death of one person is the death of all humanity, how true it is; we lost our princess and now we don’t have even one person to give relief to the millions of people suffering now. Oh Diana, Oh Our Princess; millions of people are missing you now…
