| Nearly
five-hundred young adults graduate through the Boyertown
School District every year. Lindsay Spengler is no
different - a National Honor Society member, heavily
involved in baseball, and a leader and friend to all.
There is one thing though that Lindsay
does not share with many others. She is the victim of
two rarely diagnosed illnesses - RSD
(Reflex-Sympathetic-Dystrophy) and Porphyria.
These diseases truly began to affect
her in her senior year in high school. She required
home tutoring because of her inability to move around and
walk. Besides the lack of mobility, the pain caused
from the illnesses are extreme.
As quoted from her support website:
With the
slightest touch, with a drop of water or a wisp of air
blowing over her skin, all of these only intensify the
burning.
After several years of
trying to find a way to give her life back, family, friends,
and medical professionals have been left without a solution.
The decision has been made
that the next step in treatment is a process called the
Ketamine treatment that is only offered in Germany.
Unfortunately the costs for transportation and treatment are
estimated between $150,000 and $180,000. Because this,
Lindsay and her family need your help to give her back the
life she had.
Lindsay's family and friends
have created a website to raise money for this treatment.
You can check it out at
www.newhopeforlindsay.com and learn more about who she
is and how you can help.
