BOYERTOWN, PA -
The Boyertown area has known the Bonanza Restaurant for many
years, since its inception in the 1980's. Although many
may claim that the quality of the food offered has been going
down in the last few years, the buffet and steak house was
always a busy stop on a Friday night.
The locally
owned franchised restaurant is closing due to an end of a
20-year contract with Metromedia Restaurant Group (MRG), the
owner of the Bonanza and Ponderosa restaurant chains. The
restaurant was left with a choice of continuing business with
the Bonanza trademark and paying higher fees to the corporation
or waiting two years until opening a new business on the
location, as in agreement in the contract.
Not only does
this leave Boyertown with another empty shell of a building, it
is also leaving many high school students, who are a large
percentage of the employee population, without jobs.
Sunday,
February 18th will be the final day the restaurant will be open.
