In a press release from Boyertown Police,
“On Tuesday January 26, 2010 the Boyertown Police Department received a report of a burglary at Bause’s Super Drug Store, 42 E. Philadelphia Ave. in the borough, which occurred over the night before. Employees opening the store Tuesday morning found a window which had been forcibly removed. Police were called, and further investigation by store employees revealed that drugs and lottery tickets had been taken. As a result of security measures in place at the business, and information that employees were able to provide to police, a suspect was identified, and further investigation conducted. Police obtained and served a search warrant the same day at a residence in the borough. As a result of the investigation, a significant quantity of narcotics were recovered, and a suspect was arrested. William H. Messner, 47, of 141 S. Reading Ave. Boyertown was charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, Theft, Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, and Possession of adulterated or misbranded controlled substances. He was arraigned Tuesday night in Berks County Central Arraignment Court. The quick apprehension of a suspect in this case can be attributed to advance planning by the business owner pertaining to security issues, and employees being observant and aware of their surroundings and conditions. This crime was solved, and solved quickly, because people affected by it thought about it and did something about it before it happened.”
