New Stage at the State Theatre of Boyertown
BOYERTOWN, PA — When Boyertown residents Dawn and Kevin Rhude purchased the historic State Theater in October of 2008, they aspired to revitalize and enhance the theater to create a “theatre of the arts.” While the building is still in need of structural repairs and updates, a new stage has been added to welcome live performances.
Built in 1912 as the “Lyric,” the State Theatre of Boyertown now boasts a newly constructed 12′x32′ stage. Matt Hess Remodeling kindly donated hours of carpentry expertise along with some generous help from A. D. Moyer Lumber. Other dedicated volunteers contributed time and donated funds towards the project. Most known for its affordable admission price to movies, the theater will now also be used for theatrical plays, music concerts, and dance performances. These added events will serve the community while generating funds to afford the building repairs. The new stage will be used for the very first time by The Boyertown Community Theatre Company in their production of “The Ha Ha House,” a family friendly play to be presented October 29, 30, and 31.

“Boyertown Family Restaurant” Now Open
Everyone knows that the former location of Schaeffer’s Family Restaurant in Boyertown has gone through several changes of ownership in the last few years, and the location on South Reading Avenue has been empty for several months. But now there’s new hope for the restaurant, more recently known as the Boyertown Cafe - it’s well on its way to opening up again with a new face. The restaurant, now called “Boyertown Family Restaurant,” is now open for business.
WZAR chatted with the new owner to see what he has in store for the place. Be sure to check it out in the November episode of Boyertown Live.
