No tickets to ride will be necessary when roughly 200 members of the National Carousel Association pay a visit to the Carousel at Pottstown on Thursday, Sept. 24. The stop is part of the NCA’s 36th Annual “Philadelphia Friedom Tour,” named for Frederick Fried, one of the organization’s founders.

Carousel enthusiasts from across the nation visiting the Philadelphia area for the NCA convention are scheduled to arrive at 7:15 p.m. to visit the construction site of our new carousel building at 30 W. King St., Pottstown, as well as our animal-painting shop at 309 High St.

The NCA members will be shuttled from the Carousel building in small groups to tour the small shop. Members of the Carousel board will be on hand to answer questions and offer information to the visitors.

The Carousel at Pottstown Inc. is a nonprofit group formed in 2000 to advance the vision of an historic carousel attraction in downtown Pottstown. The project began with the purchase of an antique carousel mechanism and has progressed through the complete refurbishment of the original carousel - built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co. in 1905 and now appraised at more than $1 million including the finishing touches on the new solid wood animals - all largely thanks to thousands of hours of volunteer labor.
