BBB’s Dog Days of August Approaching

Dog Days of August begins at the Boyertown Farmers’ Market on August 15th, from 10-1 on South Reading Avenue featuring Dr. Jennifer Fry of Banfield, The Pet Hospital and Tracy Ruth (Reiki Master) who will host the “Doggie Day Spa.” Dogs can receive Reiki massage, to maintain their natural state of well-being and balance and an Orthpedic Adjustment, to keep them moving well. All free at the spa.

At noon, the market will present a Junior Pet First Aid class for children. Taught by certified veterinary technician, Sharon Lee, there will be demonstrations, information and handouts.

Beginning at 1:00 activities will continue at a Pet Expo to be held at the Civic Walkway, the entrance to the Inner Core parking lot on South Reading Avenue as well as various locations throughout Downtown Boyertown. The Expo will feature free toe and nail trimmings by Dr. Fry and members of the Banfield Pet Hospital for all “good doggies”, a K-9 Unit demo by Douglass Township Police SGT John W. Dzurek,dog agility demos, dog and pet exhibits provided by vendors such as GIGI’s at Home Pet Care LLC, Fuzzy Days, Franknbean LLC, Pupcicles given out by Rita’s Water Ice of Boyertown, the Kiwanis Club of Boyertown will be hosting their “Hotdog Cafe,” and pet rescue groups will be set up for those interested in adding an addition to their family until 4:00. From 2:00- 4:00 stop in at the Historic State Theatre, 61 N. Reading Ave. to to place you and your pooch in the spotlight walking the red carpet and smiling for the Puperatzi (awards will be given for best in show).

As your dog is taking you for a walk around the vendors, stop at the Spotted Dog Barkery, 18 South Reading Avenue, to cool off at the Puppy Pool Party 1-4 (swim suits optional for all pets). A Dog/Owner Look-A-Like contest will be hosted at the Spotted Dog Barkery, register your dog for the contest prior to the event at either the Boyertown Farmers Market, Saturdays 10-1 or by calling the Spotted Dog Barkery, 610.473.2333.

Pet watering stations will be sponsored by The Boyertown Farmers Market, S. Reading Ave., Gracefully Framed, 39 E. Phila Ave., The Spotted Dog Barkery, 18 S. Reading Ave., The Historic State Theatre, 61. N. Reading Ave., Bauses Super Dug Store, 42 E. Phila. Ave., and Zimmers Pets, 51 E. Phila. Ave.

Drop off stations for donating pet food, blankets, towels and toys (in good condition) for local animal shelters will be located at The Boyertown Farmers Market, S. Reading Ave., The Auto Tag Place, 30 S. Reading Ave, Spotted Dog Barkery 18 S. Reading Ave., Bauses Super Drug Store, 42 E. Phila. Ave and Zimmers Pets, 51 E. Phila. Ave.

Downtown specials will be available at Gracefully Framed with the offer of a second mat free on any framing job, $5 off of any notary service, and an in-door yard sale at The Auto Tag Place, an art exhibit at Studio B, Bauses Super Drug Store will have special “goody” bags for every DOG and owner that stops by, Zimmers Pets will be hosting games and FREE dog training lessons, and the Historic State Theatre will be handing out pupcorn for the dogs and popcorn for their owners.

Public restrooms will be available at Zimmers Pets and the Spotted Dog Barkery.

In conjuction with Building A Better Boyertown’s Dog days of August, The Relay for Life of Boyertown will be hosting a dog parade, $10 to register, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. For more information contact Angi Sheetz doitallmomx3@dejazzd.com.

Boyertown Superintendent To Retire In January

He’s lead the school district through many positive and controversial times, from improving state-mandated test scores to the attempted implementation of block scheduling.

Dr. Harry Morgan, who’s been the superintendent of the Boyertown School District for several years, plans to retire on January 4, 2010.  The board voted in favor of the motion at the July 14th School Board meeting, 8-1, the only opposition from Barbara Hartford, stating that Morgan should stay and finish the job he started.

Cruise Night in Boyertown Has Been Rescheduled

Due to unfortunate weather conditions on June 20, 2009, Building A Better Boyertown (BBB) had to reschedule the 2nd Annual Cruise Night in Boyertown.

Thanks to the cooperation and understanding of the Borough of Boyertown, National Penn Bank, the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, Good Shepherd and St. John’s Churches, Cruise Night in Boyertown will be hosted on July 18, 2009 (rain or shine) from 4-9pm, located alone Third-Fifth Streets of Reading Avenue, 100 South Walnut Street, in the parking lot of The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, and the lots of National Penn Bank and Good Shepherd Church on South Reading Avenue, Boyertown.

(Resident inconvenienced by the event will have parking offered in the back lot of St. Johns church for the day and the Inner Core Lot will not be affected)

Events in Boyertown just keep getting bigger and better, with 3rd Saturday themes to accommodate all the excitement. So please join us on Saturday, July 18 from 4-9pm to appreciate a great selection of vehicles, motorcycles, live music, vendors, Downtown specials and much, much more.

Live entertainment will be provided by GK Entertainment and It’s My Turn Karaoke, food will be available for purchase through CD’s Place, Sweet Beginnings, the Kiwanis Club’s Hot Dog Café, Rita’s Water Ice and the Salvation Army. A 50/50 will be hosted by BBB as well as raffle tickets for a Harley Davidson through the Liberty Fire Company’s Station 17, and The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles will be extending their hours for the day to accommodate participants and spectators. Inside the museum there will be “peddle car” raffle tickets available and rests rooms.

Street Closing: The Third Saturday of July 2009- Cruise Night July 18- Streets will be closed from 5th Street/Reading Ave-3rd Street/Reading Ave. with the exception of Rt 73 from 3pm-10pm Parking is still accessible to the Inner Core Lot and side streets. Residents affected by the street closure will have alternate parking in the rear lot of St John’s as well as in the Inner Core Lot.
