WZAR TV was on the scene as smoke poured out of the back of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles on Walnut Street in the borough.  Bystanders reported flames shooting out of the building, but within minutes of the crews’ arrival, the fire seemed to be contained.

Officials are saying the fire was electrical and there was no damage to any of the historic vehicles inside.

Poet Laureate Coming to Boyertown High School for Open Mic

Posted by WZAR Staff On April - 26 - 2009

Doris Ferleger, the 2009 Montgomery County Poet Laureate is coming to the 3rd Annual Open Mic for Poetry, Tuesday, April 28th at the Boyertown Area Senior High.  Ms. Ferleger will read her original poetry.  Ms. Ferleger is a native of Philadelphia, has taught English in high school and has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA).  She recalls her own high school English teacher encouraging her to write.   The Boyertown Area High School (BASH) Open Mic will be the first official appearance Ms. Ferleger will make after being officially inducted as the Montgomery County Poet Laureate in a ceremony taking place at Arcadia University on Friday, April 24th at 7 pm. www.montcopoet.com

The Open Mic for poetry is open to all BASH students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades, faculty and staff.  Family and friends are cordially invited.  Again this year, Mr. Carr will read his own writings.  Mr. Carr teaches Physics, Math and is an avid volleyball player.  Also appearing again this year is Mrs. Zoe Keck, German teacher, reading her work in English.  Mrs. Keck is a member of the school district’s Diversity Committee and also instructs at the local YMCA.

Song lyrics are also poetry set to music.  Students who write original acoustic songs can perform at the Open Mic as well.  The BASH-TV crew under the direction of Mr. Bill Cherkasky will record the Open Mic.

Students, have you got something to say? Say it in poetry.  Say it at Open Mic.  Say it on Tuesday April 28th, from 6 to 8 pm in the BASH library.  You’ll have a stage, you’ll have an open mic.  You’ll have an audience of your friends and fellow students.  No stress, no competition, just speak your mind in poetry or original acoustic.

If you write your own, you can read it.   If you have a favorite poem, you can read that as well.  If you write original acoustic, you could play your song.  Anyone in 10th, 11th or 12th grade at BASH can participate.  Talk it over with your friends.  Sign Up.  Stand Up. Speak Up.  Celebrate your creativity.

Truck Crashes into Pottstown Restaurant

Posted by WZAR Staff On April - 20 - 2009

16 people are injured after a pickup truck crashed into King Buffet, a Chinese food restaurant right off of Route 100 near Walmart.  The accident happened around 6p.m. on Sunday, a busy time of day for any restaurant.

The truck ended up completely inside the restaurant, narrowly missing the cash register counter, but hitting a heavy seating area head-on.  Tables were crushed and interior walls could be seen hanging in pieces.

There is no word on the condition of the people injured at this time.  Police are saying the driver of the pickup may have had a seizure.  The restaurant is closed and is deemed unsafe by authorities.
