Theatrical Production Honors Boyertown’s History

Posted by WZAR Staff On January - 4 - 2009

BOYERTOWN, PA — Theatre In Motion, Boyertown’s premiere theater company, is currently in rehearsals for its first dramatic production, A Little Princess. Boyertown’s history reveals that the same play, but perhaps a different version of A Little Princess was performed at The Rhoads Opera House in November 1907. The Rhoads Opera House is located on East Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown and is remembered for its disastrous fire that devastated our community in 1908.

This play, most memorable as the 1939 movie titled “The Little Princess” starring Shirley Temple, is an adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s “Sara Crewe” written in 1888, and is designed to be appropriate and enjoyed by all ages.

Performances will be at The Friendship Hook and Ladder Company’s Friendship Hall, Boyertown on January 17, 2009 with both a 2:00 matinee and a 7:00 pm show. On Sunday, January 18 the play will be performed Café Style at The Hard Bean Café, Boyertown at 7:00pm.

Theatre In Motion is under the direction of Dawn Haas Rhude.  The cast includes Boyertown residents Sheila Barton, Jesse Haas, Sheila Hess, and Stephanie Frantz with Boyertown school students Joy Rhude, Andrea Barton, Lyddia Ankrom, Amanda Cordon, Jennifer Smith, Devon Stackonis, Olivia Crocker, Corinne Hess, Marley Stackonis, Lauren Bergen and Emma Gresh. Other local cast members are Cliff Stackonis, Machelle Moore, William Acosta, Jonathan Moore.

Tickets prices are $7. for the January 17- matinee, $10 for the January 17- 7pm show with a lite fare included, and $7 for the January 18 performance, with The Hard Bean Café’s menu available for purchase.
