From the feelings I get from folks in town, I sort of feel like these guys are preaching to the choir, in a way. The downside to this is that these guys do not seem like they're from Boyertown, and they show up with garish signs and lacking in calmness. They also seemed to be lacking focus. Who cares about NASA at times like these? It's hard for even me, a staunch Obama objector, to accept them.

Up grading the splash pool is a great idea. It looks like it will be something good for the children. Now can the YMCA update the rest of the pool, Fix the concrete around the pool. I was their the other week and the pool was dirty and the diving boards were missing. This is not how a public pool should be ran or look. Please don't get behind on maintenance and upgrades and end up like the pool in Pottstown.

Forget the vehicle code! I am referring to previously "allowed" passing zones that are now "no passing zones" on Route 73.
Whatever your opinion, please enjoy driving behind a very slow moving vehicle in Berks because I have been taking "helicopter" flying lessons, but I still need to get to the heliport for flight behind those dregs upon our highways.
The helicopter option is great for distances of around two hundred miles, but it isn't for trips to Reading and area given present public transportation.
The State Highway Department is simply making it difficult for drivers to remain LEGAL given present driving markings.Of course, the local police departments and municipalities need the funds.
So, good folks, do as you please, and enjoy the results!

@ Randy: According to my reading of the appropriate Vehicle Code section, you are 50% correct (that means I'm 100% correct, lol). The section under which we can be cited is 3307(b). According to that section, "Where signs (roadside) AND markings (solid line(s)) are in place...no driver shall...drive on the left side of the roadway...". I didn't write the language. Examples of proper "No passing zones" exist along Route 73 in Upper Frederick Township. My understanding of the language of subsection (b) is that BOTH signs (roadside) and markings (solid line(s)) must be present in order for a passing movement to be illegal. I respect debate so please convince me that I'm wrong.

Ray,
In reference to your comment, I believe Rt. 73 has a double yellow line painted on it and if I remember correctly in the vehicle code it states you cannot pass a vehicle when there is a double yellow line present.

I'm writing in reference to Mr. Leister's comment about the Commonwealth not operating wisely. Sir, respectfully, read the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Section 3307 "No-passing zones" subsection (a). Specifically read "Signs shall be placed to indicate the beginning and end of each no-passing zone." Also, subsection (b) "Where signs 'and' markings are in place...". Along the section of roadway between Boyertown and Oley, signs are not in place. Therefore, if one's intended passing movement can be accomplished, in safety, with appropriate legal regard to oncoming traffic, hills, curves, signals, and the vehicle that one is passing, Section 3307 is the applicable section and the passing movement is legal. Pass those slow pokes at your leisure. Representative Kessler’s Office need not be contacted.

I understand Eric's point, however, the sidewalk expo is an annual event, which takes place the third Tuesday of June each year, and is scheduled a year in advance. The people with Penn Dot should have checked with the Borough to see what is going on. The sidewalk expo attracts the Boyertown community to come out and celebrate summer. don't blame Berks-Mont Business Assoc for the problem on Tuesday it's not their fault it's Penn-Dots.

Anytime a State Highway is closed for an event prior notification is required; therefore, everyone was certainly aware of planned events. My concern is that the work really wasn't necessary because the roadway was generally in good shape but the manhonles were a problem near Mayor Deery's House causing noise from the trucks, and they have to be seated properly along with proper grading.
The State likewise is not operating wisely these days. For example, it is NOW impossible to pass a slow moving vehicle from Boyertown to Oley. At Bertolet Mill Road the roadway is visible to the top of the hill into Oley, yet it is is NOW all a "NO PASSING" zone which is utterly stupid. I asked for a response from Representative Kessler's Office two weeks ago with NO response to date; in fact, I stopped at his office in Oley out of frustration after following a trail of very slow moving vehicles. The young lady in his office likewise shared her frustration about the situation with me.
The good folks who planned and conducted Sidewalk Expo in Boyertown are to be complimented because it was a really great event bringing joy to young and old alike regardless of the unnecssary inconvenience of the roadway construction.
